Subject: News Release: Fremont-Winema National Forest Implements Public Use Restrictions

Good morning, everyone! Here it is, what we have all be anxiously awaiting: public use restrictions:

Lakeview, OR—July 27, 2022— The Fremont-Winema National Forest is implementing public use restrictions on all Forest lands, effective July 28, 2022. As temperatures continue to rise, vegetation dries out and the risk of fire increases.

Public Use Restrictions reduce the risk of human-caused fires by limiting where open flames may occur, and areas where other potential fire hazards such as smoking, welding, or operating internal combustion engines are permissible.

These restrictions include:

  • Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, including a charcoal fire.
  • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a designated campground, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
  • Possessing, discharging or using any kind of firework or other pyrotechnic device.
  • Operating a chainsaw or other equipment powered by an internal combustion engine in violation of Industrial Fire Precaution Level directives.
  • Welding, or operating an acetylene or other torch with open flame.
  • Operating or using any internal or external combustion engine without a spark arresting device properly installed, maintained and in effective working order.
  • Violating any state law concerning burning, fires, or which is for the purpose of preventing or restricting the spread of fire.

Additionally, the South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership will be raising the Fire Danger Level to ”extreme” and increasing the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) to Level 3.

Visitors to the Forest and any public lands are asked to remain hyper-vigilant and prepared: always carry a shovel and extra water in your vehicle, keep trailer connections secure, avoid driving on or near dry grasses, call 9-1-1 to report a fire.

Visit the Fremont-Winema NF website to see the full text of the Forest Order.

As always, please do not hesitate if there is something I can assist you with! Have a great day and stay cool! 😎
