Patricia O'Shay
BACKGROUND
Originally from Santa Rita, New Mexico, Patricia spent 25 years at UC Berkeley, serving as the Director of Student Affairs. She managed an $8 million budget across state and federal funds, led grant programs, launched special initiatives, and served on web policy groups—experience she now brings to Rocky Point Fire-EMS.
PATH TO ROCKY POINT
Looking for a place to retire, Patricia purchased property in the Mountain Lakes area and began following local governance. After reading meeting minutes that raised questions, she started attending monthly sessions and speaking during public comment—quickly becoming a steady advocate for keeping the department strong.
WHAT SHE BRINGS & FOCUS
Patricia pairs leadership and budgeting skills with a hands-on understanding of the station—she attended department trainings for over four years to learn how our crews operate. As Vice Chair, her priorities are clear: secure the best equipment and resources through donations and grants, strengthen community support, and keep a strong two-way connection with the residents we serve (including appointing a community member to chair fundraising).
BEYOND THE BOARDROOM
Patricia enjoys cooking and baking. Recently widowed, she honors her husband’s service as an EMR with the department. Their only child moved to Oregon with them, and Rocky Point is now home.
