NEXT REGULAR FIRE BOARD MEETING

March 10 at 9:00 am Everyone is welcome to come and listen. Be sure to check the www.rpfire.com website or the kiosk in front of the fire hall for the official minutes of the February board meeting and/or the March Agenda.

Board Members Emails

There is one email address for the board. That email address is: board@rpfire.com.

For Fire Department Information

Be sure to check the Rocky Point Fire & EMS website (www.rpfire.com) frequently for info, updates, and in the case of any disaster or emergency, important instructions.

Reminder:

We can better serve you, in case of a house fire, if we have information available, in advance, regarding your floor plan and property design. Please go to the rpfire.com website, click on Chief's Desk then select PreFire Planning Form. Print the form and fill it out including a drawing of your residence floor plan, and return it to the fire department. All information will be kept confidential.

Fire Department Hours:

For the time being the fire station hours will vary as volunteers are available. Ty will be at the station on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and until noon on Thursdays. That is the only scheduled hours until the Chief can return and resume her schedule.

Rocky Point Firefighters Association Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser. March 15, 2025
At the Fire Hall – 25600 Rocky Point Rd All You Can Eat Pancake Brunch Served from 9 am to 11 am Menu will include one serving of scrambled eggs. ( 2 eggs) And one serving of Biscuit and Sausage Gravy (1 Biscuit), and coffee. ALL OF THAT FOR JUST $10.00 PER PERSON!

Around The Station

The third round of the CWDG grant is being submitted. It is only for $700,000 and will be for only two paid staff this round. We should hear by the end of March if we have been awarded the Title III Grant moneys. Should also hear about the Firewise Grant as well. Currently, Chief Walker-Pope is working from home following a fall while on a 911 call and breaking three bones in her ankle. In addition to healing, she is busy reviewing, updating and writing policies and procedures, attending Zoom meetings, keeping up on the books and answering emails. She is coming to the station for a short time each Friday and entering data in the computer. Currently, we are down to one EMT on a regular basis. This is important information for everyone to know because if that EMT has to be away for some reason, any emergencies in Rocky Point will have to wait for another District to respond. We have three volunteers working on their EMT certifications. We need volunteers. You don't have to be, or even be interested in being an EMT to volunteer. We need traffic control help, people to help get equipment out of the rigs, and people to drive the rigs, on occasion people to help lift, and people to scribe.

Rocky Point is a Firewise Community!

Firewise Committee Update

The statewide maps of wildfire hazards zones have been finalized. Your property's designation is not only important to you but to your neighbors as well. Your Firewise Connection committee encourages you to:

  1. download the map and find your property. Pertinent information can be saved and printed. The website is https://hazardmap.forestry.oregonstate.edu/ex plore-map
  2. Examine lots adjacent to yours for their hazard rating
  3. Develop a plan to help you make your property as defensible as possible.

Recent catastrophic fires in Los Angeles are once again pointing out why an ounce of prevention might be better than a pound of cure. If you need assistance in accessing the map or have any questions please feel free to contact Jerry or Diana. - Jerry Higgins 541-891-7804 - Diana Newdall 541-810-3180

Watch for updates this month.

Committee members: Diana Newdall, Jerry Higgins, Greg Hoskins, Steve McKee, Del Ramsdel, Rod & Linda Golart, Steve Hill, David Reed, and Ellen Fawl.

If you would like to participate in the committee…contact us at: rockypointfirewiseconnection@gmail.com

Fire Tips

As the snow melts and Spring arrives, there will probably be fire fuel debris on our roofs and on the ground around our houses within our 100 ft fire break space. Removing the fire fuel debris should be a first priority for Spring time clean up.

If you will be burning that debris don't forget to call the fire station and let us know the days you will be burning. If know one answers please leave your name, address and phone number. We check the answering machine and note all burn notification calls on the board so we all know what and where things are happening.

Public Assist:

Remember, if you or a family member falls, indoors or outdoors, and you need help getting up, call 911. They will dispatch your local fire department, and we will come assist you in getting up. This is referred to as "Public Assist" and there is no charge, unless you have injured yourself and we need to transport you to the hospital.

Do you have an address sign?

When you experience an emergency and call 911 for help, we need to be able to find you. Do you have your house number posted in plain site on the street? If you need an address sign for your property, call the station; 541-356-2100. If no one answers, please leave a message

Medical Air Transport Memberships

We would encourage every resident of Rocky Point to be a member of both Airlink and Mercy Flights. In a medical emergency where air transport is critical, we have no control over which service will respond. The one that is currently available will be the one responding. Even though Airlink will no longer be providing helicopter service from Klamath Falls, they will be providing helicopter service from Bend and fixed wing service from Klamath Falls. Your membership continuation is important in the case of a medical emergency when Airlink from Bend provides the flight service. The membership is honored State wide. In fact, your Airlink Membership is good Nation Wide. And keep in mind, your Airlink ambulance coverage is separate from your air transport coverage and you want to keep both.

We want to encourage you to also carry a Mercy flight membership as they will be providing service out of Medford. The memberships do not cross over. And Mercy Flights does not provide service nationwide.

The cost of carrying both memberships is minimal compared to an air transport bill.

A Huge Thank You

We extend a huge thank you to Rob Golart for his assistance in getting a patient to the Ambulance on a recent call.

Safety Tip

Remember to keep your driveway cleared of snow and or debris so that we can get to you with the Ambulance. Also while dealing with such, keep in mind that we need a pathway to your door that the gurney can be rolled in on.

First Aid Tip

While you are busily engaged in Springtime clean up, please remember to drink your water! Dehydration is not pretty or fun and can cause death.

Measures to take to avoid dehyration:
  • Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day, especially during hot weather or when exercising.
  • Avoid sugary drinks and alcohol
  • Monitor fluid intake when taking diuretic medications
  • Seek medical attention promptly if symptoms of dehyration occur.
Symptoms of dehydration:
  • Thirst
  • Dry mouth and throat
  • Decreased urine output
  • Dark-colored urine
  • Fatigue -Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion (in severe cases)
Treatment:
  • Drink plenty of fluids: water, electrolyte solutions or juice, sipping small amounts frequently.
  • Seek medical assistance immediately. Call 911 - intravenous fluids may be necessary.
NOTE:

Dehydration can be serious, especially in young children, older adults and people with underlying health conditions. If you suspect you or someone you know is dehydrated, seek medical attention immediately.
